FARMED is a concert and interview series inspired by George Orwell’s Animal Farm. Conducting interviews with leaders of grassroots movements in cities around the US, FARMED culminates in evenings of song and interview, performed for a live studio audience.
with musical guest Jennifer Cintron and Micah Burgess "A Latinx couple in the Bronx kidnaps a twelve-year old girl in a misguided attempt at creating a family. The girl claims to be clairvoyant and can communicate with the dead, including the couple’s own dead baby. She is also protected by a not-so-imaginary friend, whom she calls “The Grinch” (Yes, THAT Grinch, only more ghoulish!). Ultimately, a battle of wills ensues pitting faith, family, and politic against each other."
with musical guest May Cheung "In a small San Francisco apartment in the 1990’s, Meryl and Ana Sofia, a lesbian couple, attempt to conceive a child through in-vitro fertilization while navigating Meryl's bipolar disorder II. In the same apartment two decades later, their daughter, Robyn and her roommate Hadley are forced to navigate their friendship through Robyn's cancer. In the struggle to take control of their lives, relationships, and illnesses four women unravel the complexity of their Asian, Bulgarian, and outsider to American identities and experience the potential loss of female friendship and sense of self: What does it mean to love someone honestly even when they are incapable of being honest with themselves?"
with musical guest Ashni "A story set in Chicago's South Side on Christmas Eve, where racial tensions and personal demons are awakened as two families struggle to deal with a murder between a white University of Chicago professor and a young black student, Kevin Lamb."
with musical guest Gabi The Artist "Three female scientists find themselves held hostage by the government for their stance on climate change. Time bends as the women explore how much they can trust each other and question the price of their freedom."
with musical guest Jackie Gage "Biron has been deployed to Iraq and Islande is stuck in Coney Island. A fable of a mermaid connects them both as they are forced to confront their personal horrors in order to try to find one another and themselves during a time of war."
with musical guests NOWA "The story of Jesse and Adam, two people who fall in love. But it's not only about Jesse and Adam. It's also the story of Jesse: of how a person deemed "fat" by their community lives, works, and is seen by the world he lives in. Because Jesse and Adam's relationship isn't just about them. It's about how the pressures from the people in your lives, and your community, can affect a relationship. When Adam's circle of people begins to question Jesse's worth to Adam, it makes that same doubt suddenly start to grow in Adam's mind"
with musical guests Keren Abreu and Chris Peters "Snow in July, comets falling from the sky. The world is thrown into chaos as Cupid rips off her wings and gives up on Love. But her old flame Saint Valentine has a plan to bring her spirits back up; and it involves the relationship between two men, Alejandro and Benny. Moving from outerspace to Hackensack NJ, I Wanna Fuck like Romeo and Juliet is a Queer Love story of epic proportions that investigates God and mortals, realism and fantasy, and the pain that comes with Cupid’s arrow. Or in this case; shotgun."
with musical guest Diana Oh "Daniel tries to write his first full-length play and it’s not going to be about his mom. He’s already written a web series about her so this play will Not. Be. About. Esther. Instead, there’s Dragon and missionaries in North Korea and oh crap his mom is calling... A genre-fucking play about unapologetic storytelling, family both born and chosen, and the messiness of intersectional identities, Daniel & Esther & Dragon journey through autobiography, imagination, & maybe the Korean War."
